Hundreds of years in the future, humanity has discovered a way to travel from one point in the galaxy to another by opening a "tear" in the fabric of space. Humans have been exploring, colonizing, and living in dozens of star systems for over a hundred years.

So far, apart from plant life and lesser animal forms, no intelligent aliens have been encountered. Humanity seems alone in the galaxy. As history has proven time and again, distant colonies tend to build their own identity and feel a need to break from their home nations. Colonies in distant galaxies are no exception.

This feeling is given a big push when a questionable leader is elected to head the Earth-based United Earth government. As politics and freedom on Earth get worse and that spreads to the outer colonies, factions break away from the Earth-based government and declare independence.

The U.E. President refuses to allow that to happen and wages a sometimes covert and deceptive war against the rebels. Many factions begin to form up behind a military officer who feels that she can no longer serve a leader who has abandoned the concepts of freedom and liberty upon which the government was founded.

That is where our story begins...

Sweet Sorrow is based on a science fiction novel of the same name written in 1998 by Brent Barrett.
